When Discouragement Tries to Steal Your Courage
So many believers right now are quietly carrying a weight they don’t always know how to name—discouragement. Not because they don’t love God. Not because they’ve stopped trying. But because prayers feel unanswered, breakthrough feels delayed, and deep down there’s a subtle, nagging thought: “Maybe I’m letting God down.” I want to remind you today—this is not truth. This is a tactic. Discouragement is not just an emotion; it is a strategy designed to steal your courage and distort your perspective.
When we begin to recognize the power of “dis,” everything starts to come into focus. Words like discouragement, disappointment, disbelief, and disconnection are not random—they are targeted. They slowly pull us out of alignment with God’s truth and into agreement with lies that weaken our faith. But the Kingdom Mindset calls us higher. God is not relating to you based on your performance—He is relating to you through the finished work of Jesus. You are not disqualified. You are not behind. And you are certainly not a disappointment to Him. He chose you, and He appointed you. “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit…” (John 15:16)
Many of you are in what feels like a waiting season—a desert season where things aren’t moving the way you expected. But Scripture reminds us that these seasons are not punishment; they are preparation. “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart” (Psalm 27:14). “Take heart, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). “Be strong and courageous” (Joshua 1:9). Courage is not something you feel before you move forward—it is something you choose as you stand firm in truth. God is strengthening you, anchoring you, and preparing you for what’s ahead, even if you cannot yet see it.
If this message resonates with you, I want to invite you to go deeper. My book, Breaking the Power of Dis, was written for this very reason—to help you identify the subtle lies that have been shaping your thoughts and to replace them with Kingdom truth that restores courage, clarity, and freedom. You don’t have to stay stuck in discouragement. You were created to live with a renewed mind, steady faith, and unshakable confidence in who God is and who you are in Him.
